The furniture designers Johannes Foersom (1947-) and Peter Hiort-Lorenzen (1943-) go by the artist name Foersom & Hiort-Lorenzen. Together they have run their own design studio since the late 1970s and are considered today for "The Grand Old Men" in Danish furniture design. They work from the idea of the good and solid craftsmanship and with a great emphasis on functionalism. In the simple, dimmed design, they find an aesthetic design that is primarily based on function and quality. Foersom & Hiort-Lorenzen has won several international design awards for to challenge their work with materials and find new ways to construct furniture, which they have succeeded in based on their craftsmanship and academic experience. The playful and dynamic design duo has designed several furniture series for FDB Furniture. Gesja, Butler and Mikado, where the latter is a reinterpretation of Poul M. Volther's iconic stick chair J46. In addition, their furniture is included in art collections at MoMA in New York, Design Museum Denmark, Trapholt in Kolding, Moderna Museum in Stockholm and Die Neue Sammlung in Munich.
